Young Southeast Asian Leaders STEM Education Regional Workshop Media Advisory

The U.S. Embassy, in conjunction with The Asia Foundation and STEM Cambodia, will host the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) STEM Education Workshop. The opening ceremony will take place at 8 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018, in the Sunflower Ballroom at the Himawari Hotel. The U.S. Ambassador and the Minister of Education, Youth and Sport will give opening remarks. Starting at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018, the YSEALI participants will pitch their collaborative projects at the Cambodian Science and Engineering Festival, which is being held at Olympic Stadium. The top three projects will be recognized with small funds to put their ideas into action.

The YSEALI STEM Education Regional Workshop will bring together 50 young men and women from across 10 ASEAN countries, including Cambodia, to promote STEM education. The workshop will focus on the importance of STEM education; STEM skill gaps; women in STEM; and STEM innovation.

Launched in 2013, YSEALI is the U.S. Department of State’s signature program to strengthen leadership development and networking in Southeast Asia. Through a variety of programs and engagements, YSEALI seeks to build the leadership capabilities of youth in the region, strengthen ties between the United States and Southeast Asia, and nurture an ASEAN community of leaders who work across borders to solve common issues.
